Sarah Palin: A Conservative, a Lady, a Leader

With liberals in Washington imposing their big-government policies on the nation, there is good reason for conservatives to be deeply concerned about America’s future. But at the Institute we see a bright ray of light in the form of a hockey mom from Alaska.

Sarah Palin stormed onto the scene in 2008 and immediately became the most exciting new woman leader in America. Never before has a conservative woman enjoyed such prominence in this country’s policy debates, and at the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute we say: It’s about time.

The Institute has known the power and potential of conservative women for years. Governor Sarah Palin is exactly the kind of woman we promote every day. She has a deep faith, successful career, values her family and embraces conservatism on every key issue.

The mainstream media and radical feminists have sung the praises of liberal women like Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton for years. But their reaction to Governor Palin’s entrance to the national stage? Contempt.

“This isn't the first time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees with him and opposes everything most other women want and need,” sniped Gloria Steinem, the so-called grandmother of the feminist movement.

We saw that coming. Since our founding in 1993, the Institute has been calling out the phony claims of “women’s groups” who say they represent all women and just want to see women succeed. The 2008 election showed these groups for what they are — extremists who promote a left-wing agenda that very few women subscribe to.

The Left despises Governor Palin because she shows that any American woman can have a bigger say in public policy. Palin proves irrefutably that even small-town wives and mothers can stand up and fight the big government juggernaut.

Even in the face of vicious personal attacks, Palin responds with a cheerful toughness and refuses the play the victim.

“It’s motivating to me,” Palin said in an interview. “You can’t whine about it. That doesn’t do any good.”

For many women, Palin is a winning breath of fresh air that they can actually identify with. She is inspiring a new generation of ladies who dream of successful careers as well as marriage and motherhood.

As the home of conservative women leaders, no organization is better positioned to capture this renewed energy and interest than the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute. She may have lost her bid for the Vice Presidency, but she won over millions of women and the men in their families too, bringing new life to the conservative movement right when it needed it most.
